Grandparents Can Provide Incredible Mentorship
Video Transcribed: Reason number two that your grandchildren need you. Mentorship. Hi, I’m Oklahoma Grandparents Rights Attorney, Justin Mosteller, And today we’re talking about mentorship.
Now, as I said in the other videos, these aren’t really legal factors as such, but they go to explain why the relationship between a child and the grandparent is so important. And to me, really the most important thing that children can get from grandparents is mentorship. Oftentimes, kids have different interests than their parents a lot.
In my family, my son is very mechanically inclined, and I’ve never been mechanically inclined. I went to school for engineering, but it was electrical engineering. I liked computers. I was a geek. My son likes motorcycles and engines.
He likes to take them apart, put them back together, and that’s something that my dad is really into as well. And so when my son wants to explore that part of his life and learn more about those things, really has to go to his granddad. And I know it doesn’t really hit me in an insecure way. I know that I give him different things than Granddad does.
In my own life, my grandparents provided incredible mentorship to me. And I think all of us looking back, can point to a grandparent or grandparents that provided us with mentorship that really shaped who we are today as adults, and that’s incredibly important.
Children need that type of engagement and the more places they can get it from, the better. The better off they’re going to be in the end because they’re going to get, they’re going to be more well-rounded.
They’re going to get opportunities to explore things about themselves and about their future from different people that care about them, and that’s really highly important. I cannot overstate. This is probably to be the most important reason that grandparents need to be involved in their grandchildren’s lives.
