Parents and Children Oftentimes Don’t See Eye to Eye
Video Transcribed: Why your grandchildren need you. Insight into their parents. Hi, I’m Oklahoma Grandparents Rights Attorney, Justin Mosteller, and today, we’re going to be discussing insight into your parents.
Now, all of us know that parents just don’t understand and kids just don’t understand their parents. That basic fact is played out in our homes every day. We all know that parents and children oftentimes don’t see eye to eye.
And part of that is because children look up to their parents as these adult figures that were never young and they can’t imagine them as a child. When you go and talk to your grandparents, you can learn a lot about why your parents are the way they are. It helps that parent-child relationship.
So when a parent denies visitation to a grandparent, I’ve always thought they’re really only handicapping themselves. Not only are they denying themselves someone who can safely take care of the child when that’s necessary, but they’re also denying the children the chance to learn more about them and to relate to them better. It’s really important.
And it’s something that only a grandparent can provide. Hopefully, this gives you some insight into the scope and the purpose, and the necessity of that relationship between you and your grandchild, and then motivates you to do anything that’s required to make sure that that relationship stays intact.
