Consult a Grandparents Rights Attorney When Assistance Needed
Video Transcribed: Reason number six that your grandchild needs you; protection. Hi, I’m Oklahoma Grandparents Rights Attorney, Justin Mosteller, and today is part six of the reasons that your grandchild needs you.
This series has been an examination, it’s not really about the legal factors that go into any of these cases, it’s really just information about the benefits that a child gets from a relationship with their grandparent.
And today we’re going to talk about one that’s often overlooked and that’s protection. You need a close relationship with your grandchild if you suspect that a child is being subjected to abuse or neglect because you need to be able to get that information.
You need to be able to be there and talk to the child and hear them call out for help. So that you can be in a position to act on that, and to do something about it.
We see this again, and again. Often times I talk to folks who are being denied contact or don’t have regular contact with their grandchild, and they have suspicions about what might be going on in a parent’s home. They can’t really put their finger on it.
They can’t really tell you exactly what’s going on. And if your contact with the grandchild is closely monitored by a parent, then they have control over what gets said in the discussion, and the child is going to be less likely to share things that might make the parent upset. But those things are very important for a grandparent to hear so that they can take steps to make changes in that child’s life for the better.
It really does take all of us to act in the protection of a child, and no one is more important in that, the parents and grandparents. You need that close relationship to be there, just in case something bad has happened.
Hopefully, this is giving you a real understanding of all of the things that you give to your grandchildren that no one else can. So, if you find yourself being denied contact with your grandchild, feel free to seek counsel from our office to speak with a Grandparents Rights Attorney in Oklahoma.
